QR code to UPI ID

Read the UPI ID back out of a QR code. Upload an image, drag one in, or paste a screenshot — you will see exactly which UPI ID it pays, plus any name, amount and note baked into it. Nothing leaves your device.

How to read a UPI QR code

  1. Get the QR as an image — a screenshot, a photo of a printed sticker, or a saved file. Square-on and in focus works best.
  2. Drop it above, choose it with the button, or press Ctrl+V to paste.
  3. The UPI ID appears immediately, along with the payee name, amount and note if the QR carries them.

What this is useful for

Checking before you pay

See exactly which UPI ID a QR points at without opening a payment screen — handy when a code arrives from someone you do not know.

Recovering your own UPI ID

You have an old printed QR but no longer remember which UPI ID it uses. Decode the sticker rather than guessing.

Copying an unselectable ID

A QR on a poster or in an image has no text to select. This gets you a copyable UPI ID.

Checking a fixed amount

Confirm whether a QR has an amount baked in, and what it is, before scanning it at a counter.

What a QR code can and cannot tell you

A UPI QR code is just a short text string drawn as a pattern of squares. Decoding it gives you exactly the string the creator encoded — typically:

upi://pay?pa=someone@okhdfc&pn=Some%20Name&am=499.00&cu=INR

The UPI ID is real: it is the address the money would go to. The payee name is not verified by anything — whoever built the QR typed it, and it can say anything at all. This is precisely why UPI apps ignore it and display the name registered against the bank account instead.

So use this to confirm where a payment would go. Do not use the name in a QR as evidence of who is being paid. More on how this gets abused →

Frequently asked questions

Is the image uploaded anywhere?

No. It is drawn to an in-memory canvas and decoded by JavaScript running on your device. Nothing is transmitted, and nothing is stored — you can confirm this by disconnecting from the network and using the tool anyway.

It says no QR code found

Usually the crop, the angle or the focus. Make sure the entire code including its quiet border is in frame, photograph it square-on rather than at an angle, and avoid glare on printed stickers. Very low-resolution screenshots often lose too much detail.

Can I use my camera instead of a file?

On a phone, tapping Choose an image normally offers the camera. Point-and-scan live decoding is best handled by your UPI app, which will also verify the payee.

The QR decoded but was not a UPI code

Plenty of QR codes carry a website, a Wi-Fi password or plain text. The tool shows what it found so you can see what it actually was.
