Bank account to QR code generator

Generate a payment QR code straight from a bank account number and IFSC code. Free, instant, nothing stored. Switch to the Bank Account tab below to start.

Read this first: PhonePe and Paytm reject bank-account QR codes on security grounds. If your payers use those apps, a QR built from a UPI ID is the reliable option. The section below explains exactly why.

How to generate a QR code for a bank account

  1. Pick the Bank Account tab in the tool above.
  2. Enter the account number and the 11-character IFSC code (for example HDFC0001234). The IFSC is on your cheque book, your passbook, and in your banking app under account details.
  3. Optionally set an amount, then download the QR or copy the link.

Why some apps reject these QR codes

NPCI’s UPI specification allows a payee to be addressed by bank account instead of a UPI ID, using the form <account-number>@<IFSC>.ifsc.npci. That is a real, documented part of the spec, and it is exactly what the tool above encodes.

The catch is at the app layer. A UPI ID has been through the issuing bank’s verification, so the payer’s app can display a confirmed account-holder name before the money moves. Raw account-plus-IFSC addressing carries no such verified name, so PhonePe and Paytm classify it as a high-risk unverified payee and block it. Google Pay and BHIM generally allow it, sometimes behind an extra confirmation screen.

None of this is a defect in the QR code — the same QR that PhonePe refuses will often pay fine from BHIM. It is a per-app policy, and it can change without notice.

What to do instead

Find your UPI ID

Open any UPI app, go to Profile, and look for “UPI ID”. You already have one if you have ever used UPI — it maps to this same bank account.

Create a readable one

Most banks let you add a custom UPI ID like yourname@hdfcbank for free. Nicer on an invoice than a phone number. How to create a UPI ID →

Generate from the UPI ID

Use the UPI QR code generator with that ID. It works in every UPI app, every time, with the verified bank name shown to the payer.

Taking business payments?

A verified merchant QR shows your business name and removes first-time-payee friction. Onboard via Razorpay, Cashfree or BharatPe.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to put my bank account number in a QR code?

An account number and IFSC are receive-only credentials — the same pair you print on an invoice or share to receive a NEFT transfer. Nobody can withdraw money with them. What they do enable is targeted phishing, so treat a public QR the way you would treat publishing the account number itself. A UPI ID leaks less.

What is a universal QR code generator for bank accounts?

It is the same thing described on this page: a QR that encodes account plus IFSC rather than a UPI ID, in the hope that any UPI app will pay it. “Universal” describes the intent, not the reality — app-level blocking is what actually decides.

Can I generate a QR for a current account?

Yes, the tool does not care about the account type. Current accounts receive UPI with 0% MDR and need no extra KYC if the account is already open.

My IFSC is being rejected by the form

An IFSC is exactly 11 characters: four letters for the bank, then a 0, then six characters identifying the branch — for example SBIN0000123. The fifth character is always the digit zero, which is the usual thing people get wrong.
